Building AI Where the Defaults Do Not Fit

Why emerging-market AI teams need different assumptions about cost, connectivity, language, and institutional trust.

1 min read

Most AI playbooks assume Silicon Valley defaults: abundant capital, English UX, and hyperscaler proximity.

Builders across Latin America, Brazil, Portugal, and other emerging markets operate under a different stack of constraints—and often a different stack of opportunities.

What actually differs

  • Unit economics: Token cost is not abstract when margins are thin and FX is volatile.
  • Language: Portuguese and Spanish are not “localization tickets”; they are product surfaces.
  • Trust: Institutions, regulators, and buyers ask different questions—answer them with evidence.

A better frame

Do not chase parity with coastal hype cycles. Chase fit: architectures, evals, and narratives that survive local procurement, LGPD/GDPR-adjacent scrutiny, and operator reality.

Janeiro exists to make that intelligence durable—calm, technical, and regionally literate. For the 2026 adoption numbers—and why “in production” is not the same as ready—see Brazil’s Agents Are in Production. That Is Not Maturity.
