Provenance Citations Operators Can Verify

Citation UX that shows source, jurisdiction, and freshness—so a local operator can challenge the answer, not decorate it.

A citation that nobody can check is theater. Operators need provenance they can dispute.

The pattern

Ship answers with verifiable provenance, not decorative footnotes.

  1. Return source title, jurisdiction tag, and last-verified or document date with every grounded claim.
  2. Link to a stable locator (doc ID + chunk or page)—not a buried search URL that rotates.
  3. Prefer fewer cited claims over many soft attributions the operator cannot open.

When to use

  • Compliance, policy, and HR assistants where wrong answers create institutional risk
  • Support tools where local SKUs and SLAs must be checkable
  • Completes the trust half of Retrieval with Regional Context

Trade-offs

  • Slightly denser answer UI
  • Requires clean ingest metadata and durable source IDs
  • Builds the institutional trust coastal demos skip

If an operator cannot verify it, do not cite it.
